Figure Drawing & Painting
with Henry Yan

Workshop | This program is completed

Students who do not wish to take the painting portion of the workshop can opt to draw all five days.

This workshop will feature 3 days of drawing and 2 days of painting. The drawing portion will include both short and long pose charcoal drawings from live models. Different techniques, including composition, values, form, line, shape, and massing, will be introduced and practiced in class. Students will also be encouraged to find their own way of seeking beauty from each pose, and interpret what they find with their personal artistic approach instead of just copying.

The painting portion will focus on how to use beautiful oil colors to paint from live models. Students will learn how to paint human figures from 25 minute quick studies to a one day session using the Alla Prima approach. Class will start from a relatively simple, limited color palette for quick paintings, to a full color palette for longer paintings. Different techniques will be demonstrated and practiced: such as premixing unique colors, matching the right values with expressive or exaggerated color temperatures, the application of various thin and thick brushworks, and more…
