For centuries, artists have utilized toned papers for both their aesthetic qualities as well as a shorthand means toward representing the wide spectrum of values observed in nature.
Students will learn the basic construction and landmarks of the head. Then they will quickly move on to the articulation of the individual features. Using both black pencils and white chalk, students will learn to "key" their drawings, making the most of the advantages these toned papers offer.
This class is designed to straddle the fence between painting and drawing. Students interested in a four-color approach to the portrait in watercolor are also invited.
We will work from live models for which there is an additional fee.
