He spent the next 28 years as a physical therapist at Cook County Hospital, working in acute care and outpatient, and in all specialty areas. In his last 10 years, he served as Cook County Director of Physical Therapy and other rehab services before retiring.

Torsten’s art background included 10 years at the American Academy of Art part-time program, earning a degree in the 1990s. In addition, he has been a member of the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts for more than 30 years starting in the early 90s. Previously, he spent 3 years on the P&C board, seven years developing & assisting the office with the school program, 10 years initiating and assisting and running model marathons with Chris Miller, and 30+ years monitoring the Friday evening quick sketch open studio. Presently, he continues as the Friday quick sketch monitor and in the last few years has served as P&C librarian, printing open studio monitor and participates in most open studios as an active artist. Also, in the last three years, Tor runs, along with artists, Mary Palmer & Joan Stachnik, the anatomy open studio. In that role, he gives regular presentations to improve participants’ knowledge of anatomy as it relates to artistic endeavors. Finally, Tor coordinates monthly visits to Rush Hospital’s Anatomy Lab, allowing artists an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of anatomy drawing dissected cadaver donors

Torsten Muehl is committed to maintaining & developing the Palette & Chisel’s art anatomy program as a critical part of traditional figurative art training for all interested participants. For him personally, it is an opportunity to combine together his passions for anatomy and figurative art.
