Class #576: Oil Painting - Still Life & Copying Master Paintings with Michael Van Zeyl

Open to all levels, this class will introduce various painting materials including: surfaces, grounds and oil painting media. With emphasis on chiaroscuro painting (the dramatic distribution of light and shadow in a picture), students will learn the essentials for creating dimensional, life-like paintings including: composition & design, values, edges, color harmony & color temperature, and paint application. Students are welcome to bring in their own objects to paint from life. Students can opt to copy master paintings. It’s one of the best ways to learn painting.

Michael is a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. While running his own graphic design studio, Michael took evening and weekend classes here at the Palette and Chisel and in New York at the Art Students League to advance his training as an artist. Michael is now a full-time professional artist and has been exhibiting work in various shows and galleries the nation. He has received many commissions, honors and awards from: Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America and Art Renewal Center.
