This 1-day workshop is open to artists of all levels and working in any medium. Limited to 10–12 students.

 
Hands can be difficult for many artists. This workshop will introduce ways to simplify the structure of the hand based on its position and pose.

 
Portraits are one of the most interesting subjects for many artists. The workshop will teach a direct approach to painting within a short amount of time, focusing on capturing either a portrait of the face or the hand.


There will be a live model and photo references of hands for students to choose from.

9:00–11:00 AM — Lecture + Demonstration

11:00 AM–12:00 PM — Individual guidance and help with students’ paintings

12:00–1:00 PM — Lunch

1:00–4:00 PM — Individual guidance and help with students’ paintings


  • The workshop will take place in our third floor studio.

Blanca Favi is a Spanish artist and painter based in Chicago whose practice explores the human figure through oil painting, drawing, and portraiture. Her work is grounded in observation and an interest in the ways the body can communicate emotion, movement, and intimacy.


In 2025, Blanca completed 365 Portraits, a year-long project in which she painted one portrait every day for a year. The project deepened her understanding of the figure through daily observation and experimentation, allowing her to explore gesture, expression, anatomy, and the subtle details that make a figure feel alive.


Her painting process is intuitive and physical, often incorporating expressive brushstrokes. In her classes, Blanca encourages students to approach painting through close observation while developing confidence in their own visual language. Her approach combines practical understanding of anatomy, proportion, and form with experimentation and a sensitivity to gesture and expression.
