An Abbreviated Approach to Academic Drawing with Matt Braun

In this workshop, I will start by sharing a variety of approaches to drawing the portrait. Renaissance Florentine through Nineteenth Century French Academic methods will be discussed, and we will come upon ways of synchronizing elements from each tradition. Handouts will be provided, we will do some exercises aimed at facilitating new ways of seeing, and demonstrations as well as one on one help will be provided.

Matthew Braun
Matthew Braun studied at the Laguna College of Art and Design during which time he learned from instructors such as Joseph Todorovich, Jeff Watts, Sean Cheetham, Lance Richlin, and Marshall Vandruff. Some of his training traces its way back to Jacques Louis David, while other instructors came from the animation industry. Since that time, he has continued to develop his approach to drawing and painting, perpetually studying from varied instructors. He has learned from Stephen Bauman, Ray Bustos and Steve Huston among others. Here he offers a synthesis of the approaches to drawing he has learned over the last ten years.
