This course provides basic information and instruction on caregiving in the home. Participants receive information and skills training necessary for providing support and assistance to older adults who require minimal to moderate assistance. The course focuses heavily on the “hands-on” personal care skills.

Participants learn to assist with or perform basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, walking and meal preparation; how to provide companionship, engagement in conversation and activities and how to maintain a clean and safe environment. The course provides 24 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours are allotted for skills practice. Successful completion of this course requires a passing score of 80% or better on a written test and satisfactory performance of basic physical skills under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

This course satisfies the Rules and Regulations for Home Caregiver Training in Arkansas per the Arkansas Department of Health 2014 Arkansas cod ANN.20-77-2101.
