This course provides information and instruction for an individual to prepare to take the Arkansas Certified Nursing Assistant Examination. Participants receive information and skills training necessary for providing support and assistance, focusing heavily on the “hands-on” personal care skills.

Participants learn how to assist with or perform basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, walking and meal preparation; how to provide companionship and engagement in conversation and activities; and how to maintain a clean and safe environment. The course also includes specific training to care for clients with dementia. Participants also learn how to perform more advanced skills such as catheter care and vital signs. This course provides 91 hours of classroom instruction, skills practice, and clinical performance. Successful completion of this course requires a passing score of 80% or better on written tests, satisfactory performance of physical skills under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and successful participation in client care in the long term care facility.
