Castanets (also known as castañuelas or palillos) are a handheld percussive instrument dating back to the Phoenicians in 1000 B.C. They highlight and accent the intricate rhythms of the many dances they accompany. This class will focus on learning and perfecting the technique for playing castanets to accompany Flamenco, and begin to learn how to incorporate castanet playing into flamenco dance.  Students will build their finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, expand their musical knowledge of complex rhythms and stimulate their brain with fun, challenging exercises. No prior flamenco experience is needed. Suitable for castanets students of all levels. Castanets will be needed and information on where to purchase them can be provided upon registration.
