Mr. Kirkley offers a technique starting with the basics to become comfortable with forms and shapes, learning how to observe details, shading, light, and shadows. This is a very supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere where questions are welcomed and feedback is appreciated.
Classes are offered monthly on the third Wednesday.
JDarrell Kirkley
JDarrell Kirkley moved to East Texas following a 45 year successful career in the film/video business in Dallas, Texas. Following his retirement, he now works full-time in art and photography. He has studied under renowned artists and attended live drawing classes at SMU. JDarrell is delighted to be teaching art and to see the progress that his students are making under his direction.
Mr. Kirkley has been awarded over sixty-five ribbons from art shows, including ten first place ribbons from the State Fair of Texas for his illustrations. In 2001, Acting Dallas Mayor, Mary Poss, presented Kirkley's large ground Zero painting "A Tribute to 9-11" to Mayor Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion at the Mayor's Convention in New York City. In 2002, he was recognized for his contribution to 9-11 by the Dallas City Council.
JDarrell has illustrated three books, Space Cat by author Michael Baldwin, Under a Texas Sun, a poetry book by Ann Howells, and From Under the Bridges of America, a book of poems about the homeless he and his wife Judy published.
