Is it time for a snowball fight or a pool party? Why not both! In this whimsical "Swinter" adventure, campers will dive into the world of surrealism and creative problem-solving. We’ll play with "environmental acting"—learning how to switch from shivering in a blizzard to basking in the sun in a single scene. It’s a high-energy week of wacky costume pieces, extreme weather improv, and finding the comedy in the unexpected.
This camp focuses on scripted scene work or devising theatre techniques as well as deeper acting technique.
Students rehearse scenes from plays written for young performers or write original works of their own, while learning core acting fundamentals like objectives, motivation, tactics, and character development — the same tools introduced in collegiate training programs.
Campers receive individualized coaching and work together to refine voice, movement, and ensemble skills. The week concludes with an informal sharing for family and friends.
Students practice:
Script analysis and understanding a playwright’s intention
Memorizing and delivering dialogue with purpose
Making motivated character choices
Listening and responding truthfully on stage
Blocking and stage direction vocabulary
Working with props and costumes
Building ensemble trust
Strengthening focus and discipline
Each session features different scenes, making this camp ideal for continued growth and repeat participation.
