Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and the number one cause of long term disability in the United States. Nearly one quarter of strokes occur under the age of 65 and more than doubles each decade after the age of 55. Eighty percent of all strokes are preventable. Identification and management of stroke risk factors is key in reducing a person’s risk of developing stroke. Time is brain and every minute counts. Early recognition and prompt treatment of stroke symptoms can improve a person’s recovery following a stroke.
