Social Science/History | Available (Membership Required)

Ron Meeks has been an American Civil War student and historian since he began seriously studying the War in the 1950’s. He has visited more than 50 Civil War Battlefields, Museums and other historical locations, read over 200 non-fiction publications on the subject, researched the history of numerous historical places and people from that era and taken every opportunity to expand his Civil War knowledge and experiences.
This presentation will consist primarily (but not exclusively) of the following.
  1. Snapshot descriptions of the North and South at the start of the war.
  2. Secession by Southern States. Who, where, when and why.
  3. First “Shots” of the war. Who started the shooting, where, when and why.
  4. War Casualties, including dead, wounded, missing and captured.
  5. Conscription and Substitutes – Mandatory draft North and South.
  6. Who really advocated the war, and who actually fought the battles.
