My Life As A Journey

Social Science/History | Registration opens 1/5/2026 12:00 AM MST (Arizona)

Many people have described how life is a journey—getting from one place to another. One of the best known is Jaques’s long speech from Shakespeare’s play As You Like It, which begins, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and
women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays  many parts, His acts being seven ages” (Act 2, Scene 7). A very brief summary of the journey of life is the riddle of the Shinix in Sophocles’ play Oedipus: “What goes on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?” In this workshop, we will discuss a wide range of metaphors that could apply to our lives.
