What is a color scheme? Why should you have one? What can it do? You will find the answers to these questions in class. In each class session you will learn a new color scheme. You will learn what it does. You will learn which pigments are most effective with each color scheme. You will learn have to use the color scheme. You will produce
one or more landscapes with a specific color scheme each class session.

  • Acrylic
    Paints: Black, white, red, yellow, and blue pigments that work together OR:
    Titanium White – Blue [Phthalocyanine Blue or Phthalo Blue or
    Winsor Blue] - Red [Quinacridone Red or Naphthol Red or Pyrrol
    Red] - Yellow [Arylide Yellow or Hansa Yellow]

    Painting supports: canvas board, stretched canvas
    Size: Your choice
    Brushes: You can use just one medium round pointed brush OR you may use a
    variety of round pointed, filbert and flat brushes which are small,
    medium and large. Use small brushes for small paintings, large
    brushes for large paintings.

    Supplies: Liquid soap for cleaning your brushes, soft paper towels, plastic sheet

    to cover your table, palette such as white foam plates, two wide mouth
    plastic containers [such as a Cool Whip container] for water, pencil,
    vinyl eraser.

    Watercolor or Gouache [Gouache is opaque watercolor]
    Watercolors: A set of watercolors or tubes of gouache OR

    Chinese White – Blue [Phthalocyanine Blue or Phthalo Blue or
    Winsor Blue] - Red [Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Red or
    Naphthol Red or Pyrrol Red] - Yellow [Zinc Yellow, Lemon Yellow,
    Arylide Yellow or Hansa Yellow]

    Supplies: two water plastic containers, 140lb or heavier watercolor paper,
    #2 pencil, vinyl eraser, soft paper towels, plastic sheet to cover
    your table, Mr. Clean eraser, round sponge, [optional] natural
    sponge

    Brushes: medium round pointed watercolor brush,
    small round pointed watercolor brush [optional],
    mop brush [optional]

    Ink and Watercolor
    Watercolors: A set of watercolors OR same pigments as watercolor above
    Paper: 140lb or heavier cold press watercolor paper
    Supplies: Thin line or very thin line black permanent waterproof pen,

    All the watercolor supplies listed above.

    Brushes: small round pointed watercolor brush [optional],
    medium round pointed watercolor brush,
    mop brush [optional]

    Pastel
    Sticks: 12 or larger piece soft pastel set
    Eraser : Kneaded eraser
    Paper: 18”x24” or larger acid-free pastel paper or 300 to 600 grit

    sandpaper or fine or extra fine sandpaper

    Supplies: Soft paper towels,
    Colored Pencils
    Pencils Set of colored pencil
    Paper Drawing paper or drawing pad – your choice of size
    Supplies: blending tool, stump, vinyl eraser
Allen Reamer

Allen Reamer, Allen - Has produced art and taught studio art and art history for most of his life.  He was fortunate to come from generations of artists.  His undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate education was in studio art and art history.  Allen has taught high school to graduate-level classes.  He has been recognized by various organizations for his teaching and artwork.  He has been active  in local and national art organizations, including representing D.C. art educators at the national level for a decade. He teaches over 175 studio art classes and over 230 art history classes.
