Titian was the greatest painter among great High Renaissance painters of Venice. He was called the “sun among the stars”. Titian was equally adept at sacred and secular paintings, portraits and profane works. He is known for his classical reclining nudes. Titian lived a long life and his painting methods, particular the use of color, exercised a profound influence not only on Italian Renaissance painters, but on future generations of Western artists.
We will discuss his life and a few of his over 400 paintings. We will discuss paintings in all of the seven subject areas he painted, some in great detail.
