You can produce beautiful shaded drawings with graphite. There are two types of shadows. You will learn what they are, their parts, and how to produce them with graphite. You will learn how the light defines the surface texture of an object.
You will learn how to make these surface defining lights. You will how light and shadow defines the shape of an object and you will learn how to do this with charcoal. You will learn the how to use tools and techniques to produce these
effects. As we do this, you will learn terms. We will use a variety of objects to produce these effects. We aim to produce finished graphite drawings.

  • Allen has produced art and taught studio art and art history for most of his life.  He was fortunate to come from generations of artists.  His mother taught him oil painting at a young age.  His undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate education was in studio art and art history.  Allen has taught high school to graduate-level classes.  Over the years, he has been recognized by various organizations for his teaching and artwork.  He has been active for decades in local and national art organizations, including representing D.C. art educators at the national level for a decade.  Allen teaches over 175 studio art classes and over 230 art history classes.

    6. 5H pencil
    7. Graphite stick
    8. Graphite crayons
    9. Soft paper towels
    10. Cotton balls
Reamer Allen
