A community health worker is a trusted member of the community she or he serves who assists individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. In this accelerated training program students will learn how to conduct outreach for medical personnel or health organizations to implement programs in the community that promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health; provide information on available resources; provide social support and informal counseling; and advocate for individuals and community health needs.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
1.     Achieve the basic competencies to serve as a CHW.
2.     Define the roles, responsibilities, boundaries, limitations, and essential skills of a community health worker/advocate. 

  • The CHW course will be delivered through a combination of on-line assignments, Zoom meetings, recorded presentations and other delivery methods designed to allow students to successfully complete course objectives by June 1, 2022.  Course access will be granted after registration. Scheduled Zoom meetings can be found as assignments.
