Registration will open on August 17 at 11 am CDT.
Two friends, two lifetimes of painting experience, doubling the opportunity for attendees to learn. Rose and Nancy are happy to share and teach this comprehensive five-day workshop.
They've decided to focus the workshop on the “model with the still life”, providing the student with the opportunity to explore a larger composition or, if preferred, numerous smaller paintings, in extended hours of studio learning.
From their common history of working with Richard Schmid, Rose and Nancy will connect his foundational teaching of Alla Prima, direct painting, learning to see, and the four principles of value, color, drawing, and edges, with what they themselves have learned through experience and emphasis. Nancy and Rose hope to guide attendees toward what each will need for fuller expression of themselves on canvas. We will explore the importance of questioning as a lifelong practice, equipping participants to continue developing their artistic vision and problem-solving skills after they return home.
Nancy and Rose will both demonstrate and will attend every student's easel throughout morning and afternoon sessions, emphasizing teaching during the hours the model is present. Evening sessions will be a looser format, giving students time to work on still-life sections and background areas. Rose and Nancy will also work on their own paintings, providing students the opportunity to observe the way each teacher moves a larger composition toward a finished work.
Dinners will be enjoyed in the Palette and Chisel galleries amongst Richard’s exhibition. Stories, perspectives, wisdom, and laughter, are sure to ring forward from the days Rose and Nancy sat alongside Richard, carrying through to these days, as they sit alongside you, enmeshed in the joy of painting and fellowship.
